Methane Capture
The capture, flaring, or combustion of methane gas, including capture from landfills, agricultural waste, coal beds, and mines. Methane has a global warming potential (GWP) 23 times that of CO2; when combusted, each molecule of methane is converted to one molecule of CO2, thus reducing the global warming effect by 96%. Methane's high GWP makes it an attractive target for project developers. Around 49% of the total 2007 U.S. offset supply came from methane-related projects.
